MD 555 cleaner – the powerful cleaner for your suction unit
The importance of cleaning as well as disinfection
Dental practices all around the world trust the tried-and-tested disinfectant Orotol plus for suction units. However, it often gets forgotten that the suction system also requires cleaning, and many people are not aware that doing one thing does not take the place of the other – both cleaning AND disinfection are essential. If you only disinfect your suction system but don't clean it as well in order to save time or money then you will damage your system in the long run. This applies today more than ever. This is because completely different products are used in dental medicine today in comparison to before. For example, did you know that many of the prophy powders based on sodium hydrogen carbonate (NaHCO3) that are used for professional teeth cleaning place a great strain on the suction unit? This is because – in most cases – the spray powder used is not water soluble, which is why special cleaners are required in order to remove these deposits from the system again.

Dissolving and removing prophy powder residues
Perhaps you have already encountered problems with prophy powders causing blockages on the handpiece? These residues can often only be removed with great difficulty, and the cleaning process takes a great deal of time. So, just imagine that instead of a handpiece it is your suction unit that is suddenly blocked. This is exactly what can happen in the long run if powder residue is allowed to build up unchecked in the system over time. This is why you need a special cleaner that is capable of removing prophy powders and other deposits from the system. We have put our special MD 555 cleaner to the test against a range of other products that are available in the market and found significant differences in cleaning power. The video shows a direct comparison that highlights how well the different products dissolve the prophy powder.
The pH value is the key
It takes an acidic cleaner with a low pH value to dissolve prophy powders. The same applies to other deposits that are difficult to dissolve – such as limescale. MD 555 cleaner offers exactly the right properties for this task. By contrast, a disinfectant for suction units like Orotol plus has a very high pH value, which makes it alkaline. This is necessary in order to provide full protection against bacteria, fungi and viruses and to remove organic deposits such as blood and saliva. In order to provide the best possible care for your suction system and make sure its value is preserved, it is therefore essential to use two different products that are carefully coordinated with each other – for example Orotol plus and MD 555 cleaner.
