An interview with Silas Auchter

Spotlight on mechatronics technician training

What training programme are you doing at DÜRR DENTAL?
I’m training to be a mechatronics technician.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship at DÜRR DENTAL?
Firstly, I had a holiday job at DÜRR DENTAL. I really enjoyed it and found the tasks interesting, which is why I then applied to DÜRR DENTAL for the training programme to become a mechatronics technician. Another important factor was the short distance from home.

What do you like best about your training programme so far?
I think it's great that I have a lot of freedom in how I complete my tasks. Also, the industrial trainees are all together in the training workshop, so we can support each other with our projects and tasks.

What areas have you been in so far, and can you give some examples of the tasks you have done here?
I've been in the training workshop so far. Here I’ve worked on various orders for development or assembly, but also did a lot of exercises on the machines, such as turning and milling. Other tasks that I was allowed to perform were modifying an assembly stand and building a control cabinet.

What was the most enjoyable moment that you experienced during your training with us?
The day with all the trainees at Tripsdrill Adventure Park!

What skills have you acquired during your training that will help you in your daily life?
So far, I have been able to gain a lot of electrical knowledge and further develop my practical skills. I can also apply this in my daily life at home. By having responsibility for my own projects, I was also able to develop my organisational skills.

Is there a particular story about a challenge that you overcame during your training?
My biggest challenge during my training was to build a control cabinet and install an aluminium profile.

If you were to describe your training in emojis, which ones would you use?

What's the coolest “light bulb” moment you've had during your apprenticeship?
My coolest “light bulb” moment was when I was able to take the knowledge I had acquired in the training workshop through various exercises and projects and apply it to the theoretical concepts in the classroom.

What advice would you give to others who are considering a training programme in our company?
Be open to a new chapter of life and look forward to what’s to come.

Can you share a situation where you felt like you were an important part of the team?
That would be when I was converting an assembly stand for my colleague from production, who was then able to make our compressors again without any problems.

What would you tell future applicants?
Be open for new things!
