What many people don't know: It was the invention of Orotol 60 years ago that made the treatment of supine patients and the long-term use of intraoral spray mist suction possible. Inventiveness is changing the dental world

Sometimes all it takes is a strong will, perseverance and simple means to create revolutionary inventions, as the example of Orotol shows. In fact, the world's first suction disinfectant was developed by Walter Dürr together with his friend Ludwig Pflug in their bathtub at home. This is also where production and bottling initially took place. Orotol was developed "out of necessity". The founders of DÜRR DENTAL had used their inventive spirit to bring the first dental suction system onto the market shortly beforehand. However, as innovative as this suction unit was, the challenge of launching it was initially huge. The product was in danger of failing.

Paving the way for dental suction

In 1965, the invention of Orotol paved the way for the long-term use of dental suction systems. This is because organic substances that inevitably enter the system during treatment (e.g. blood, saliva and dentine) can lead to the growth of bacteria and fungi. Long-term operation is only possible with a special product for cleaning and disinfection. Only Orotol, as a product for suction system disinfection, made the invention of the suction system by DÜRR DENTAL perfect. The way was paved for intraoral spray mist suction and the treatment of supine patients.

The invention of Orotol was not only an important milestone and pioneer for the long-term use of dental suction systems, but also the beginning of our hygiene business unit. Today, System Hygiene from DÜRR DENTAL with the practical 4-color system for the various areas of application offers safety in everyday practice worldwide.

Innovations made in Germany

We regularly add further innovative products to our portfolio in response to ever-changing practical requirements. In the field of hygiene for suction systems, these include the special detergent MD 555 cleaner, the OroCup care system and the environmentally friendly product variants MD 555 cleaner organic and Orotol plus pH 7. One thing has never changed in 60 years: The products are still developed and manufactured exclusively in Germany.
