Practice Information

Patient Information
Male, Age 42
Non-smoker
Initial Situation
The patient presented with concerns about dental staining due to an upcoming wedding. Periodontal examination revealed all pocket depths to be below 3mm, with minimal BOP. However, the patient experienced generalised cold sensitivity, likely attributable to toothbrush abrasion.
Treatment and result
An OptraGate was used to isolate the teeth, followed by GC Tri Plaque ID Gel. Oral hygiene instruction was provided, emphasising the use of an oscillating rotating electric toothbrush and interdental brushes. Lunos® Prophy Powder Gentle Clean Orange was utilised for plaque and stain removal in the MyLunos® powder jet handpiece, which was subsequently followed by the elimination of calculus via ultrasonic and hand-instrumentation.
The MyLunos® powder jet handpiece with supra nozzle and Lunos® Prophy Powder Gentle Clean removed all new and mature plaque, along with external stains with ease. This included staining on gingival recession areas which the patient has history of sensitivity when using an ultrasound handpiece.
Clinician Feedback
I believe providing detailed and individualised oral hygiene instructions is imperative during an appointment. Using plaque disclosing can be tedious and messy however having the ease of an powder jet handpiece made the appointment comfortable, while shortening the appointment time and providing great results.
